Individual epidermal cells with condensed pyknotic nuclei surrounded by a clear vesicular space and a rim of homogeneous cytoplasm were observed in various unrelated skin conditions. It is suggested that the appearance of these cells is most likely artifactual and due to factors such as occlusion, with resulting moisture in the intertriginous areas, or to other as yet unknown factors.
