The structural parameters of the thyroid gland are not in all cases homogeneously distributed in the whole organ. So it is possible, that the ratio colloid: epithelium may be very different. In such cases it is favourable to measure stage-wise cut specimens in constant distances. By this the differences, caused by the inhomogeneous distribution, were compensated for. The degree of such differences is demonstrated by a measuring example and a model for calculation.
