In a retrospective study development and complications of anaesthetic procedures for translumbar aortography (TLA) were investigated in 370 patients. In a prospective study the influence of general anaesthesia and spinal anaesthesia for the same diagnostic procedure was evaluated in 32 patients. There was no difference as regards. Forced Vital Capacity, Peak Flow, Forced Exspiratory Volume (1 sec. abs. and rel.) neither before and after TLA, nor between spinal- and regionalanaesthesia. Bronchopulmonary complications intra- and immediately postoperatively appeared more often in general anaesthesia, whereas allergenic reactions were registered more often in regional anaesthesia. Cardiocirculatory complications were about the same in both groups. The advantages and disadvantages of both procedures are discussed.
