This article describes the experience at Case Western Reserve University's Center for International Health during the first 7 years of its existence. The Center helped to stimulate substantial international health activity, including a major research collaboration in Uganda, an annual 4-week course in international health, a volunteer outreach to the University of Health Science in Laos, and medical student training electives in Zimbabwe, Thailand, China, and India. The Center remains a small under-funded catalyst organization that facilitates the substantial activities of more than 60 faculty members from many disciplines who held secondary appointments in the Center.
