Abstract

In this article, the authors adopt a position with respect to the definition of 'nursing diagnosis'. Two central functions of a classification system for nursing diagnoses are distinguished: domain and communication. Seven issues related to the development of such a classification system are discussed. These issues are of a methodological, philosophical and practical nature. A proposal is made for further study and development of a Dutch classification system for nursing diagnoses, preferably in collaboration with NANDA.
