Standards for educational programs: preparing students as acute care nurse practitioners. From the Preparing Nurses for Advanced Practice in Acute Care Consensus Conference, held in Boston, April 30-May 2, 1993.

Forty-seven individuals representing 11 academic institutions, 9 clinical agencies, and 5 professional organizations met to draft standards for educational programs preparing acute care nurse practitioners. The outcomes of this first consensus conference include statements about philosophy, title, and core curriculum. The purpose is to provide guidance to those developing similar programs and to provide a starting point for the profession to prepare a certification mechanism for acute care nurse practitioners.
