This paper describes issues in the psychological assessment of individuals for security clearances, special duty, and sensitive positions. Using assessment for access to sensitive compartmented information as an example, the paper identifies, and explicates problems in criterion validity (the NEXUS issue), practical approaches to resolving these problems, selection of assessment techniques, and writing of the assessment report.
