Abstract
Hypoxemic respiratory failure in the newborn infant may be caused by underinflation and intrapulmonary shunting often associated with pulmonary hypertension and concomitant extrapulmonary shunting. HFOV can be an effective tool to recruit and sustain lung volume in this setting.
