We have developed an integrated physical map for human chromosome 8q23-q24.1 based on STS content analysis of somatic cell hybrids and YAC contigs. Among the 63 STSs used are markers from multiple genetic maps and several previously unmapped polymorphisms, thus integrating genetic markers from different sources into comprehensive, ordered sets based on their positions in the physical map. These maps will facilitate the isolation of genes causing human inherited diseases that map to these chromosomal regions.
