Assessment of the physical performance (PP) can make the basis for judgment of whether the functions remained unaffected by a disease, particularly of the cardiac and pulmonary systems. To acquire this status in evaluation of functional disorders, PP determination must be accurate or reliable. Accuracy is unattainable because of the use of bicycle ergometers the precision of dose grading of which is not verified or adjusted. To take into account the characteristics of bicycle ergometer and subjects who undergo examination in a given laboratory will require the development of an in-lab PP standard. With this standard, PP evaluation will be adequate to the flight certification requirements.
