The purpose of this study was to describe a possible mechanism of failure of the Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV; New World Medical, Rancho Cucamonga, CA).
Two AGVS that failed to control intraocular pressure (IOP) were examined. In vivo examination consisted of unroofing the capsule surrounding the implant and injecting fluorescein-stained balanced salt solution into the tube. In one case the entire implant was removed and examined in vitro, and in the other case only the valve portion was removed.
No flow in either case extended beyond the valve. In both cases, the membrane valve system was found to be fused and could not be pulled apart.
Failure of the AGV may occur due to adhesion of the valve membranes.
本研究的目的是描述艾哈迈德青光眼引流阀（AGV；新世界医疗公司，加利福尼亚州兰乔库卡蒙加）失效的一种可能机制。
检查了两个未能控制眼压（IOP）的AGV。体内检查包括揭开植入物周围的包膜，并将荧光素染色的平衡盐溶液注入引流管。其中一个病例中取出了整个植入物并进行体外检查，另一个病例中仅取出了瓣膜部分。
两种情况下均无液体流出超出瓣膜。在这两个病例中，均发现膜瓣系统融合在一起，无法拉开。
AGV失效可能是由于瓣膜膜粘连所致。
