In a retrospective Study on patients with type III/IV Klatskin tumors, results of liver transplantation and liver replacement in combination with a Whipple procedure and extensive lymph node dissection (six and four patients, respectively) were compared. The combined ultraradical approach was not associated with higher peri- and postoperative morbidity and mortality, and seems to offer a chance for better results in terms of tumor-free survival.
