50 biopsies of the rectum and 8 of the large intestine from male and female children aged 4 months to 7 years, obtained by resection were investigated. The absence of ganglion cells in the intrinsic nerve plexuses is in agreement with the increased cholinesterases reaction. The presence of muscularis mucosae is necessary in the biopsy for the evaluation of the cholinesterase reaction. The instrument used for the excision must fulfill those demands.
