Abstract

The effects of varying the extent of vagotomy on the myoelectrical activity of the sphincter of Oddi have been successfully studied in 12 dogs undergoing either truncal, selective, or highly selective vagotomy. Both the amplitude and the shape of the single action potentials as well as the interval change in the electrical activity in the sphincter of Oddi in relation to the extent of the vagal denervation. No significant change of frequency and amplitude of the myoelectrical activity occurred after highly selective vagotomy which proves to be the best method.
