Production of glass ware, though it was only used for ornaments, was performed in Japan from ancient times. We can find them in relics of the ancient. But it was only two hundred years ago that glass bottles were applied to medicines. The bottles and a method of making a glass bottle were introduced in the Edo period by studying science in the Dutch language. It instructed us that the glass bottle could be applied to containers for medicines, and that the glass bottle was useful for the containers to protect medicines from light and moisture.
