To investigate the relationship between the erythrocyte membrane fatty acid components and diabetic retinopathy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
The study was performed in 40 patients. Thirty of the 40 were type 2 diabetic patients classified into three groups according to Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study Group (ETDRS) criteria: 10 with mild-moderate nonproliferative retinopathy (group 1), 10 with moderate-severe nonproliferative retinopathy (group 2), and 10 with proliferative retinopathy (group 3). Ten age- and sex-matched healthy nondiabetic individuals were selected as controls. We examined the fatty acid composition of the erythrocyte membrane by a gas chromatographic method.
In patients with nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy, we found statistically significant decreases in palmitic and stearic acids, and statistically significant increases in oleic, linoleic, behenic, and lignoceric acids, while arachidic and arachidonic acids remained unchanged. Except for the increase in arachidic acid, the results were similar to those in the proliferative retinopathy patients.
The fatty acid component of the erythrocyte membrane alters in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Prospective studies are needed to evaluate the relationship between the free-fatty acid composition of erythrocytes and diabetic retinopathy.
探讨2型糖尿病患者红细胞膜脂肪酸成分与糖尿病视网膜病变之间的关系。
该研究纳入40例患者。40例患者中,30例为2型糖尿病患者,根据糖尿病视网膜病变早期治疗研究组(ETDRS)标准分为三组:10例轻度至中度非增殖性视网膜病变患者(第1组),10例中度至重度非增殖性视网膜病变患者(第2组),10例增殖性视网膜病变患者(第3组)。选取10例年龄和性别匹配的健康非糖尿病个体作为对照。我们采用气相色谱法检测红细胞膜的脂肪酸组成。
在非增殖性糖尿病视网膜病变患者中,我们发现棕榈酸和硬脂酸有统计学意义的降低,油酸、亚油酸、山嵛酸和木蜡酸有统计学意义的升高,而花生酸和花生四烯酸保持不变。除花生酸升高外,结果与增殖性视网膜病变患者相似。
2型糖尿病患者红细胞膜的脂肪酸成分发生改变。需要进行前瞻性研究以评估红细胞游离脂肪酸组成与糖尿病视网膜病变之间的关系。
