A study was carried out to define the level of health knowledge and education of 756 healthy people and 189 patients with active tuberculosis. The study revealed an insufficient awareness of both the healthy subjects and patients in such aspects, as nature of tuberculosis infection, ways of its transmission, preventive measures, early detection of the disease and its curing opportunities. Systematic discussions with the persons interviewed and individual contacts with the patients allowed one to increase their knowledge of tuberculosis, influenced their discipline and made them active aids to the attending doctors.
