The aims of this study were to assess depression and type D personality in parents of children with leukemia in southern China and to investigate the associations between parents' depression and type D personality, social support, coping style, and demographic characteristics.
Parents (n=231) of children with leukemia (study group) and parents (n=261) of children with acute respiratory/digestive infections (control group) were recruited from five hospitals in southern China. Children's clinical characteristics and parents' demographic characteristics, depression, type D personality, coping styles, and social support were collected with self-report questionnaires.
Parents of children with leukemia, especially mothers, reported higher levels of depression accompanied by a higher prevalence of type D personality, more negative coping styles, and less subjective social support, but received more objective social support than controls (P<0.05). The depression in parents in the study group was positively correlated with type D personality and negative coping style, but negatively correlated with social support and positive coping styles (P<0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analyses showed that type D personality (OR=5.64, P<0.001), lower social support (OR=2.38, P=0.020), and less positive coping (OR=3.32, P=0.003) were independently associated with depression in parents of children with leukemia. As for demographic characteristics, female, lower education level, unemployed, and paying medical expenses at one's own expenses were independent predictors of depression in parents of children with leukemia.
Depression and type D personality were remarkably prevalent in parents of children with leukemia in southern China. Type D personality and multiple social factors were associated with depression in parents of children with leukemia.
本研究旨在评估中国南方白血病患儿父母的抑郁状况及D型人格，并探讨父母的抑郁与D型人格、社会支持、应对方式及人口统计学特征之间的关联。
从中国南方五家医院招募白血病患儿的父母（研究组，n = 231）和急性呼吸道/消化道感染患儿的父母（对照组，n = 261）。通过自填问卷收集患儿的临床特征以及父母的人口统计学特征、抑郁状况、D型人格、应对方式和社会支持情况。
白血病患儿的父母，尤其是母亲，报告的抑郁水平更高，同时D型人格的患病率更高，消极应对方式更多，主观社会支持更少，但比对照组获得了更多的客观社会支持（P < 0.05）。研究组父母的抑郁与D型人格和消极应对方式呈正相关，但与社会支持和积极应对方式呈负相关（P < 0.05）。多因素逻辑回归分析显示，D型人格（OR = 5.64，P < 0.001）、较低的社会支持（OR = 2.38，P = 0.020）和较少的积极应对（OR = 3.32，P = 0.003）与白血病患儿父母的抑郁独立相关。至于人口统计学特征，女性、较低的教育水平、失业以及自费支付医疗费用是白血病患儿父母抑郁的独立预测因素。
