Abstract

The agglutination test in wells of polystyrene plates has been tried for the detection of virulent Yersinia. Glucose-peptone medium has been employed in the test; the results have been recorded in standard periods from the type of the precipitate. The method has been employed to detect the virulence plasmids in 138 strains of Y. enterocolitica, Y. frederiksenii, Y. kristensenii, Y. intermedia, Y. pseudotuberculosis, and to assess the heterogeneity of various populations of Yersinia in respect of this plasmid presence. Positive results of autoagglutination in the plates (with Y. pseudotuberculosis serovariants 03 and 09) as a rule correlated with Ca-dependence of the strains. The suggested method is not inferior to the tube method in its sensitivity and may be used in screening examinations.
