The present study was conducted to investigate antibacterial activity of ethanolic extract of cinnamon bark, honey, and their combination against acne bacteria. The antibacterial activity of extract of cinnamon bark and honey were investigated against and using disc diffusion. Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) and minimum bactericidal concentrations (MBCs) were attained using Clinical and Laboratory Standard Institute (CLSI) methods. The interaction between cinnamon bark extract and honey was determined using a checkerboards method. The results showed that the MICs of cinnamon bark extract and honey against were 256 µg/mL and 50% /, respectively, while those against were 1024 µg/mL and 50% /, respectively. The MBC of cinnamon bark extract against and were more than 2048 µg/mL, whereas the MBC for honey against and were 100%. The combination of cinnamon bark extract and honey against and showed additive activity with a fractional inhibitory concentration index (FICI) value of 0.625. Therefore, the combination of cinnamon bark extract and honey has potential activity against acne-causing bacteria.
痤疮丙酸杆菌和金黄色葡萄球菌是导致痤疮形成的主要皮肤细菌。本研究旨在调查肉桂树皮乙醇提取物、蜂蜜及其组合对痤疮细菌的抗菌活性。采用纸片扩散法研究肉桂树皮提取物和蜂蜜对痤疮丙酸杆菌和金黄色葡萄球菌的抗菌活性。使用临床和实验室标准协会(CLSI)方法测定最低抑菌浓度(MICs)和最低杀菌浓度(MBCs)。采用棋盘法测定肉桂树皮提取物与蜂蜜之间的相互作用。结果表明,肉桂树皮提取物和蜂蜜对痤疮丙酸杆菌的MICs分别为256μg/mL和50%(体积分数),而对金黄色葡萄球菌的MICs分别为1024μg/mL和50%(体积分数)。肉桂树皮提取物对痤疮丙酸杆菌和金黄色葡萄球菌的MBC均大于2048μg/mL,而蜂蜜对痤疮丙酸杆菌和金黄色葡萄球菌的MBC均为100%。肉桂树皮提取物与蜂蜜组合对痤疮丙酸杆菌和金黄色葡萄球菌表现出相加活性,分数抑菌浓度指数(FICI)值为0.625。因此,肉桂树皮提取物与蜂蜜的组合对致痤疮细菌具有潜在活性。
