To date, there is still inconclusive evidence on the extra-gastric manifestations of Helicobacter pylori () infection. This study aimed to determine whether there is an association between infection with metabolic syndrome and dietary habits among medical undergraduate students in south-eastern of Iran, Zahedan.
This cross-sectional study was done among 363 undergraduate students in Zahedan University of Medical Sciences during spring 2014. All subjects completed a questionnaire including demographic factors and dietary habits. Serum -specific IgG antibodies, total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C), and fasting blood sugar (FBS) levels were measured after an overnight fast.
The seroprevalence of infection was 45.7%. -positive subjects had lower mean levels of TC and TG and higher levels of HDL-C compared to -negative subjects. In addition, lower levels of LDL-C ( = 0.044) and FBS ( = 0.05) were observed among subjects with positive H pylori infection. Only rare consumption of raw vegetables (odds ratio [OR] =3.74, 95% confidence interval [CI] =1.37-5.24) as well as higher levels of FBS (OR = 1.031, 95% CI = 1.001-1.99) were significantly associated with higher odds of infection in both the univariate and multiple logistic regression analysis.
In a small population of young students in southeastern of Iran, infection was associated with low consumption of raw vegetables and higher serum blood glucose.
迄今为止,关于幽门螺杆菌(Hp)感染的胃外表现仍有不确定的证据。本研究旨在确定伊朗东南部扎黑丹的医学本科生中,Hp感染与代谢综合征及饮食习惯之间是否存在关联。
这项横断面研究于2014年春季在扎黑丹医科大学的363名本科生中进行。所有受试者均完成了一份包括人口统计学因素和饮食习惯的问卷。过夜禁食后,测量血清Hp特异性IgG抗体、总胆固醇(TC)、甘油三酯(TG)、高密度脂蛋白胆固醇(HDL-C)、低密度脂蛋白胆固醇(LDL-C)和空腹血糖(FBS)水平。
Hp感染的血清阳性率为45.7%。与Hp阴性受试者相比,Hp阳性受试者的TC和TG平均水平较低,HDL-C水平较高。此外,在Hp感染阳性的受试者中观察到较低的LDL-C水平(P = 0.044)和FBS水平(P = 0.05)。在单因素和多因素逻辑回归分析中,仅很少食用生蔬菜(优势比[OR]=3.74,95%置信区间[CI]=1.37 - 5.24)以及较高的FBS水平(OR = 1.031,95%CI = 1.001 - 1.99)与Hp感染的较高几率显著相关。
在伊朗东南部的一小群年轻学生中,Hp感染与生蔬菜摄入量低和血清血糖较高有关。
