Breast pain is one of the most common complaints of women attending a gynecology clinic and general practitioners. This pain can cause anxiety and, consequently, reduce the woman's quality of life. The objective of this study was to assess the severity of pain and anxiety in patients with breast pain and normal examination, before and after breast sonography.
Among the patients with breast pain and normal examination who came for breast sonography in three centers in Shiraz during 2011-2012, 51 patients agreed to cooperate in this project. These patients filled out the questionnaire for evaluation of pain and anxiety before and after breast sonography.
Sonography findings indicated that 88% of patients have normal sonography without any finding. The average amounts of pain severity before and after sonography were 3.3 and 2.4, respectively ( < 0.005). The average amounts of anxiety severity in patients before and after sonography were 51.9 and 37.9, respectively ( < 0.005).
This study shows the severity of pain and anxiety after ultrasonography decreased significantly. It can be concluded that ultrasound findings, which reassure the patients that they do not have specific pathology, can reduce the pain and anxiety by its impact on psychological status of the patient.
乳房疼痛是妇科门诊和全科医生接诊的女性最常见的主诉之一。这种疼痛会引发焦虑，进而降低女性的生活质量。本研究的目的是评估乳房超声检查前后，乳房疼痛且检查结果正常的患者的疼痛和焦虑严重程度。
在2011年至2012年期间，在设拉子的三个中心前来进行乳房超声检查的乳房疼痛且检查结果正常的患者中，有51名患者同意参与本项目。这些患者在乳房超声检查前后填写了疼痛和焦虑评估问卷。
超声检查结果显示，88%的患者超声检查正常，无任何异常发现。超声检查前后疼痛严重程度的平均数值分别为3.3和2.4（<0.005）。超声检查前后患者焦虑严重程度的平均数值分别为51.9和37.9（<0.005）。
本研究表明，超声检查后疼痛和焦虑的严重程度显著降低。可以得出结论，超声检查结果使患者放心自己没有特定病变，通过对患者心理状态的影响，能够减轻疼痛和焦虑。
