Abstract

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) is a common problem in women. The purpose of this study was to identify isolates by matrix assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) from women with vulvovaginitis that were referred to Ghaem Hospital, Mashhad, Iran.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

This study was conducted on 65 clinical samples isolated from women that were referred to Ghaem Hospital. All specimens were identified using phenotyping techniques, such as microscopy and culture on Sabouraud dextrose agar and corn meal agar. In addition, all isolates were processed for MALDI-TOF MS identification.

RESULTS

Out of the 65 analyzed isolates, 61 (94%) samples were recognized by MALDI-TOF MS. However, the remaining four isolates (6%) had no reliable identification. According to the results, (58.5%) was the most frequently isolated species, followed by (16.9%), (7.7%), (7.7%), and (3.1%).

CONCLUSION

As the findings indicated, MALDI TOF MS was successful in the identification of clinical species. was identified as the most common species isolated from the women with VVC. Moreover, was the most common species among the non- species.

背景与目的

外阴阴道念珠菌病(VVC)是女性常见问题。本研究旨在通过基质辅助激光解吸电离飞行时间质谱(MALDI-TOF MS)对转诊至伊朗马什哈德加姆医院的外阴炎女性患者的分离株进行鉴定。

材料与方法

本研究对从转诊至加姆医院的女性患者中分离出的65份临床样本进行。所有标本均采用表型分析技术进行鉴定,如显微镜检查以及在沙氏葡萄糖琼脂和玉米粉琼脂上培养。此外,所有分离株均进行MALDI-TOF MS鉴定。

结果

在65份分析的分离株中,61份(94%)样本通过MALDI-TOF MS得以识别。然而,其余4份分离株(6%)未能得到可靠鉴定。根据结果,[具体物种1](58.5%)是最常分离出的物种,其次是[具体物种2](16.9%)、[具体物种3](7.7%)、[具体物种4](7.7%)和[具体物种5](3.1%)。

结论

研究结果表明,MALDI TOF MS成功鉴定了临床[相关真菌]物种。[具体物种1]被确定为从VVC女性患者中分离出的最常见[相关真菌]物种。此外,[具体物种2]是非[相关真菌]物种中最常见的物种。
