Current shortages of registered nurses working in psychiatric hospitals in the United States are exacerbated by turnover. This research describes factors that are associated with intent to leave among nurses working in a large inpatient psychiatric hospital. This was a descriptive, correlational study. 75% of respondents (n = 94) reported that they were satisfied with their current positions. 36% (n = 34) reported actively seeking employment elsewhere. Intent to leave correlated with perceptions about workplace relationships and work environment factors. Work relationships, opportunity for education, and recognition for education were factors that were primarily related to intent to leave.
