The aim of this study is to evaluate the anticandidal effects of essential oils derived from fennel () and cumin () on strains isolated from edentulous patients.
samples were isolated from 30 edentulous patients and the strains were identified using the CHROMagar method. Using the macro-broth dilution method and punched-hole tests, the effectiveness of fennel and cumin essential oils (prepared through distillation by water) was clarified. Nystatin was used as a positive control.
Nystatin (44 μg/mL) had the strongest antifungal effect, followed by cumin [minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) = 662 μg/mL; minimum fungicidal concentration (MFC) = 630 μg/mL] and fennel (MIC = 1,074 μg/mL; MFC = 1,227 μg/mL). The average diameter of the fungal growth inhibition zone was 23 mm for Nystatin, 14 mm for cumin essential oil, and 5 mm for fennel essential oil.
The anti- effects of fennel and cumin show promise as alternatives to conventional drugs for the treatment of infections.
本研究旨在评估从茴香()和孜然()中提取的精油对无牙患者分离菌株的抗念珠菌作用。
从30名无牙患者中分离样本,并使用CHROMagar方法鉴定菌株。采用宏肉汤稀释法和打孔试验,阐明了茴香和孜然精油(通过水蒸馏制备)的有效性。制霉菌素用作阳性对照。
制霉菌素(44μg/mL)具有最强的抗真菌作用,其次是孜然[最低抑菌浓度(MIC)=662μg/mL;最低杀菌浓度(MFC)=630μg/mL]和茴香(MIC=1074μg/mL;MFC=1227μg/mL)。制霉菌素的真菌生长抑制区平均直径为23mm,孜然精油为14mm,茴香精油为5mm。
茴香和孜然的抗作用有望成为治疗感染的传统药物的替代品。
