Abstract

INTRODUCTION

there is an existing variability in eating patterns between adolescents and children. Consequently, with the adoption of westernised way of life, this translates to a change in eating habits and food choices. This study was designed to investigate the dietary patterns and nutritional status of the female adolescents in Amai Secondary Commercial School, Delta State, Nigeria.

METHODS

a cross-sectional study was conducted among 201 adolescent female students (12-18 years) using simple random sampling techniques. A self-administered questionnaire was used to obtain the information while anthropometric measurement was carried out to obtain the height and weight of the respondents. Data generated were analysed using SPSS version 22.0.

RESULTS

majority of the respondents 129 (64.20%) were between the ages of 16-18 years. Measurement of nutritional status confirmed that 46.80% and 31.80% of the respondents were underweight and healthy weight respectively. In addition, the dietary pattern of the respondents demonstrated that they consumed proteinous, carbohydrate, and snacks occasionally. Factors that motivated respondents for good food choices include; nutritional status 71 (35.30%), taste 54 (26.90%), and popularity 15 (7.50%).

CONCLUSION

under nutrition remains a challenge among rural adolescent girls in Amai community. Therefore sustained strategic nutritional campaigns should be carried out among female adolescents in Amai community in order to improve their nutritional status.

青少年的饮食模式存在差异。因此,随着西方生活方式的采用,这转化为饮食习惯和食物选择的改变。本研究旨在调查尼日利亚三角洲州阿迈中学商业女学生的饮食模式和营养状况。

方法

采用简单随机抽样技术,对 201 名 12-18 岁的青少年女学生进行横断面研究。使用自填式问卷获取信息,同时进行人体测量以获取受访者的身高和体重。使用 SPSS 版本 22.0 分析生成的数据。

结果

大多数受访者 129 名(64.20%)年龄在 16-18 岁之间。营养状况测量显示,46.80%和 31.80%的受访者分别体重过轻和健康体重。此外,受访者的饮食模式表明他们偶尔摄入蛋白质、碳水化合物和零食。促使受访者选择良好食物的因素包括:营养状况 71 名(35.30%)、口味 54 名(26.90%)和受欢迎程度 15 名(7.50%)。

结论

在阿迈社区,农村青少年女孩仍然存在营养不足的问题。因此,应该在阿迈社区的青少年女性中开展持续的战略营养宣传活动,以改善她们的营养状况。
