Laboratory and biologic methods of investigation were employed to produce and test a new medium for thawing pelleted semen of breeding bulls. The composition of the medium included glucose, sodium nitrate, sodium bicarbonate, potassium chloride, ascorbic acid, nicotinic acid, amino acetic acid, and gentamycin sulfate. Thawed spermatozoa in this medium showed dependably higher motility, heat resistance, and oxygen consumption as against spermatozoa kept in a control medium. Semen thawed in the newly produced medium was used to inseminate a total of 3,142 cows, whereupon the fertility rate at first insemination was 9 per cent higher than that of the control cows.
