Insulin resistance (IR) is a component of type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome and it increases in the presence of chronic inflammation. Lately, "neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio" (NLR) has been used as an indicator of inflammation. This study evaluates the association between IR and NLR in obese women.
Obese female patients who were followed up in a university hospital for the last two years were included in the study. Homeostasis model assessment of IR (HOMA-IR), C-peptide, NLR, bioelectrical impedance measurements of 83 patients were analyzed.
The C-peptide levels of our patients showed a highly significant correlation with HOMA-IR (p<0.001). A significant positive correlation was found between fasting plasma C-peptide levels and NLR (r=0.36 and p<0.003) in obese women. The increase in C-peptide levels had a significant effect on the increase in NLR (r2=0.31, p=0.002), however insulin had no similar effect on NLR (r2=0.01, p=0.544).
Plasma C-peptide levels are better correlated with NLR compared to other parameters of IR. C-peptide may be used as an efficient laboratory marker with high relevance in IR and chronic inflammatory conditions in obese women.
胰岛素抵抗(IR)是2型糖尿病和代谢综合征的一个组成部分,在慢性炎症存在时会增加。最近,“中性粒细胞与淋巴细胞比值”(NLR)已被用作炎症指标。本研究评估肥胖女性中IR与NLR之间的关联。
纳入在一所大学医院随访了两年的肥胖女性患者。分析了83例患者的IR稳态模型评估(HOMA-IR)、C肽、NLR及生物电阻抗测量结果。
我们患者的C肽水平与HOMA-IR呈高度显著相关性(p<0.001)。在肥胖女性中,空腹血浆C肽水平与NLR之间存在显著正相关(r=0.36,p<0.003)。C肽水平的升高对NLR的升高有显著影响(r2=0.31,p=0.002),然而胰岛素对NLR没有类似影响(r2=0.01,p=0.544)。
与IR的其他参数相比,血浆C肽水平与NLR的相关性更好。C肽可作为肥胖女性IR和慢性炎症状态下具有高度相关性的有效实验室标志物。
