Abstract
An ecological approach to the assessment of emotionally and behaviorally disordered students and their school environments is described and an argument presented for the appropriateness of this approach in educational settings. The usefulness of problem behavior analysis (PROBA) as a specific observational method for assessing interactions of child and environment is illustrated by selected case examples.
