Eleven healthy, normotensive males undergoing routine restorative dental care were evaluated during treatment for possible hemodynamic alterations in response to potential sympathetic nervous system stimulation. It is concluded that once acceptable local anesthesia is achieved, the hemodynamic and sympathetic responses to routine restorative dental care are minimal. These findings serve as a baseline for further studies evaluating the response of medically and pharmacologically compromised patients to similar dental procedures.
