We present a genome assembly from an individual male (the black-headed gull; Chordata; Aves; Charadriiformes; Laridae). The genome sequence spans 1,417.60 megabases. Most of the assembly is scaffolded into 33 chromosomal pseudomolecules, including the Z sex chromosome. The mitochondrial genome has also been assembled and is 16.82 kilobases in length. The genome has been annotated on Ensembl, which reports 15,628 protein coding genes.
