Abstract

The Allium plant genus has many species, among which (AI) from the family Amaryllidaceae is endemic to Iran. There is no report on the oil composition of AI seeds. In this study, oil from AI seeds was extracted by a solvent and its composition and quality characteristics were determined. The yield of seed oil was 14.3%. The most predominant unsaturated fatty acid was linoleic acid (64.4%), followed by oleic acid (16.9%), and the main saturated fatty acids were palmitic acid (13.6%) followed by stearic acid (2.8%). Beta-sitosterol (50.7%), campestrol (15.7%), and delta5-avenasterol (8.2%) were the most dominant phytosterols in extracted AI oil. The most dominant tocopherol was α-tocopherol (1188 ppm) along with low amounts of δ- and γ-tocopherols. The obtained results showed that the oil extracted from seeds of AI can be a valuable by-product of this plant with suitable nutritional indices and can be used as a new source of vegetable oil. Further research is required to reveal its potential pharmaceutical and food applications.

葱属植物有许多种类,其中石蒜科的伊朗葱(AI)是伊朗特有的。关于伊朗葱种子的油成分尚无报道。在本研究中,采用溶剂萃取伊朗葱种子中的油,并测定其成分和品质特性。种子油产量为14.3%。最主要的不饱和脂肪酸是亚油酸(64.4%),其次是油酸(16.9%),主要的饱和脂肪酸是棕榈酸(13.6%),其次是硬脂酸(2.8%)。β-谷甾醇(50.7%)、菜油甾醇(15.7%)和δ5-燕麦甾醇(8.2%)是萃取的伊朗葱油中最主要的植物甾醇。最主要的生育酚是α-生育酚(1188 ppm),同时含有少量的δ-和γ-生育酚。所得结果表明,从伊朗葱种子中提取的油是这种植物一种有价值的副产品,具有合适的营养指标,可作为植物油的新来源。需要进一步研究以揭示其潜在的医药和食品应用。
