Abstract

Asthma, COPD, and asthma-COPD overlap are obstructive lung diseases with inflammation at their core. Oxidative stress and impaired antioxidant balance play a significant role in etiopathogenesis. This study aimed to determine whether there are differences in total antioxidant capacity (TAC) between asthma, COPD, and asthma-COPD overlap. A total of 76 patients participated in this prospective cross-sectional study. TAC levels in fasting venous blood samples were measured using a biochemistry analyzer and the total antioxidant activity method (Architect C1600, Abbott Laboratories, IL, USA). : TAC levels were lower in COPD patients compared to asthma and ACO patients ( = 0.049 and 0.026, respectively). TAC levels were lower in current and former smokers compared to never smokers ( = 0.033). There was no significant correlation between TAC level and eosinophil count ( = 0.597) and FEV1 and FEV1/FVC ( = 0.372 and = 0.189). : Our results suggest that TAC levels may serve as a marker to differentiate COPD from asthma or ACO.

摘要

哮喘、慢性阻塞性肺疾病(COPD)以及哮喘-COPD重叠综合征均是以炎症为核心的阻塞性肺疾病。氧化应激和抗氧化平衡受损在其发病机制中起重要作用。本研究旨在确定哮喘、COPD以及哮喘-COPD重叠综合征之间的总抗氧化能力(TAC)是否存在差异。共有76例患者参与了这项前瞻性横断面研究。使用生化分析仪和总抗氧化活性方法(美国伊利诺伊州雅培实验室的Architect C1600)测量空腹静脉血样本中的TAC水平。结果显示:与哮喘患者和哮喘-COPD重叠综合征患者相比,COPD患者的TAC水平较低(分别为P = 0.049和0.026)。与从不吸烟者相比,目前吸烟者和既往吸烟者的TAC水平较低(P = 0.033)。TAC水平与嗜酸性粒细胞计数(P = 0.597)、第一秒用力呼气容积(FEV1)以及FEV1/用力肺活量(FVC)之间无显著相关性(P = 0.372和P = 0.189)。我们的研究结果表明,TAC水平可能作为区分COPD与哮喘或哮喘-COPD重叠综合征的一个标志物。
