A homogeneous diabetogenic factor (HDF), an albumin with the molecular mass of 60 000 daltons, was isolated from the blood of people and animals with diabetes mellitus. An i.v. injection of HDF to intact rats resulted in a prolonged and stable hyperglycemia. HDF hyperglycemic activity was completely blocked in the recipients by the injection of appropriate heparin doses.
