A prospective study on 28 hypotensive pregnant women was carried out at the I. Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Vienna. Besides periodical controls of HCS and E3, placental perfusion measurings with isotopes were undertaken. The placental perfusions of hypotensive patients were, in comparison to normal cases, significantly reduced. Most of the neonates were evidently smaller than normals and showed dystrophic signs. It is suggested that in the light of our study a maternal blood pressure below 115/70 mmHg must be considered alarming.
