Culture of human blood monocytes in the presence of hydrocortisone results in the production of a factor which stimulates the migration of polymorphs . Steroid-treated lymphocytes do not produce this factor. This phenomenon may be relevant to the effects of hydrocortisone on polymorph kinetics and immunological responsiveness, and may relate to the granulocyte colony-stimulating factor also produced by monocytes.
