It has been shown in experiments on rats that the effect of antorphin (0.57 mg/kg), morphine (1 mg/kg) and promedol (2 mg/kg) on catecholamine balance and phosphorylase activity correlates with changes in the carbohydrate metabolism of tissues. The action of antorphin as compared to that of morphine and promedol is associated with a decreased content of adrenaline and preservation of glycogen depot in the tissues of the heart, liver and skeletal muscles.
