[Correction of the hormonal activity of the thyroid gland as a method of pathogenetic therapy in the complex treatment of temporal lobe epilepsy].

Corrective therapy (by thyroidin, di-iodo-thyrosine) of disturbed hormonal activity of the thyroid gland was carried out in 30 patients with temporal epilepsy. There was a favourable immediate (1,5 years) therapeutical effect: the epileptic paroxysms either disappeared or their frequency was reduced, significant normalization of the EEG and iodine metabolism, and improvement in the mental state of the patients were shown. It is recommended to include hormonal correction of the activity of the thyroid gland in the comprehensive treatment of patients with temporal epilepsy.
