Abstract
4-Hydroxy-antipyrine, the main metabolite of antipyrine is decomposed in alkaline medium to 2-acetyl-2-methyl-1-phenyl-hydrazine. Consequently this compound is often found in the working up of antipyrine-containing drugs.
