In recent research projects on depression, the relationship has been explored between neuroendocrinological, biochemical variables and personality and psychodynamic processes. The clinical association between depression and aggression has been studied. In the present study hostility was measured using the Gottschalk verbal sample technique. This method is described and a review of numerous psychopharmacological and psychophysiological studies is provided to illustrate the possible usefulness of this procedure in various kinds of research.
