Abstract
When one nostril was compared to the opposite there was a statistically significant difference in eosinophils found in mucus smears of 104 allergic subjects. A nasal smear from one nostril is not reliably representative of the total cell distribution in both nostrils. Both nostrils should be sampled from a patient's nasal smear.
