Ketamine hydrochloride, a relatively safe general anesthetic agent, has been demonstrated to be effective for use in electroretinography. Pigmented rabbits were given a dose of 25 mg/kg intravenously. The oscillatory potentials in light and dark adapted states and the ERG under various light adapted states after ketamine administration were not significantly different from baseline values.
