The nasal hypersensitivity model was established by nasal application of toluene diisocyanate (TDI) in guinea pigs with different levels of estrogen. It was found that high level estradiol may facilitate the development of nasal hypersensitive reaction, and drop of the estrogen level resulted from ovariectomies may postpone it with improvement of the nasal symptoms. It is suggested that the estrogen plays an important role in the pathogenesis of nasal hypersensitive reactions.
