A new HLA-DPA1 allele has been found in the African-American population. This newly discovered type is homologous with the DPA102011 allele, except in codon 38 of the DPA1 sequence. The variant of DPA1 was detected by sequence-specific oligonucleotide (SSO) typing, and specified by cloning and sequencing methods. GenBank accession number is AF165160. The WHO Nomenclature Committee has officially assigned the name DPA102016.
