Abstract

OBJECTIVES

Our study was conducted to determine the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in patients with schizophrenia.

METHODS

The study population included all patients with schizophrenia who were referred to Farabi Hospital, Kermanshah, Iran, between March 2014 and March 2015. A total of 280 subjects who met the study criteria were selected according to the census sampling method.

RESULTS

The prevalence of metabolic syndrome was 30.4% (20.7% in men and 51.5% in women). The prevalence of metabolic syndrome was greater in patients > 40 years than patients aged 20-40 years. There was a significant relationship between marital status and number of hospitalizations with the prevalence of metabolic syndrome.

CONCLUSIONS

Given the high prevalence of metabolic syndrome in patients with schizophrenia, healthcare professionals should take measures to identify the risk factors and timely treatment of affected patients, thereby improving the patient's quality of life and reducing health costs.

目的

我们开展这项研究以确定精神分裂症患者中代谢综合征的患病率。

方法

研究人群包括2014年3月至2015年3月期间转诊至伊朗克尔曼沙阿法拉比医院的所有精神分裂症患者。根据普查抽样方法,共选取了280名符合研究标准的受试者。

结果

代谢综合征的患病率为30.4%(男性为20.7%,女性为51.5%)。年龄大于40岁的患者中代谢综合征的患病率高于20至40岁的患者。婚姻状况和住院次数与代谢综合征的患病率之间存在显著关系。

结论

鉴于精神分裂症患者中代谢综合征的高患病率,医疗保健专业人员应采取措施识别危险因素并及时治疗受影响的患者,从而提高患者的生活质量并降低医疗成本。
