Abstract

Job burnout can significantly affect nurses' physical and mental health and the quality of the care services they provide. Yet, there is no clear definition for job burnout in nursing. This study aimed to analyze the concept of nurses' occupational burnout. This concept analysis was conducted, using the three-phase hybrid model. In the theoretical phase, online databases, namely Iranmedex, Scientific Information Database (SID), Science Direct, MagIran, ProQuest, Web of Sciences, Scopus, and PubMed were searched to retrieve studies published from 2007 to 2018. In the fieldwork phase, twelve semi-structured interviews were conducted with nurses and head-nurses selected from teaching hospitals in Isfahan, Iran. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed through thematic analysis. In the final analytic phase, the findings of the first and the second phases were combined. Based on the findings of the theoretical and the fieldwork phases, job burnout can be defined as, "a state of physical, mental, emotional, and social exhaustion resulting from the negative effects of unmanaged occupational stress and inadequate managerial and social support, which reduces interest in and motivation for work, affects care quality, and results in negative attitudes and behavior towards self, clients, and the work". This study provides an in-depth understanding of the concept of job burnout in the nursing context of Iran. Managers need to develop strategies for job burnout prevention and management based on its contributing factors.

职业倦怠会严重影响护士的身心健康以及他们提供的护理服务质量。然而,护理领域中职业倦怠并没有明确的定义。本研究旨在分析护士职业倦怠的概念。本概念分析采用了三阶段混合模型进行。在理论阶段,检索了在线数据库,即伊朗医学数据库(Iranmedex)、科学信息数据库(SID)、科学Direct、MagIran、ProQuest、科学网、Scopus和PubMed,以获取2007年至2018年发表的研究。在实地调查阶段,对从伊朗伊斯法罕教学医院挑选的护士和护士长进行了12次半结构化访谈。访谈内容经转录后通过主题分析进行分析。在最终分析阶段,将第一阶段和第二阶段的研究结果相结合。基于理论阶段和实地调查阶段的研究结果,职业倦怠可定义为:“由于职业压力管理不善以及管理和社会支持不足的负面影响而导致的身体、心理、情感和社交疲惫状态,这会降低工作兴趣和动力,影响护理质量,并导致对自我、客户和工作产生消极态度和行为”。本研究深入了解了伊朗护理背景下职业倦怠的概念。管理者需要根据其影响因素制定预防和管理职业倦怠的策略。
