Abstract

OBJECTIVE

To assess the effect of adjunctive use of modified cold-atmospheric pressure plasma (MCAP) to surgically mechanical debridement (MD) on peri-implantitis (PI) in beagles.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

Bilateral mandibles of beagles with PI, which induced by cotton ligature twined with steel in sub-marginal around the implant, were randomly divided into two groups: MD in conjunction with 2% CHX irrigation (control group) and MD with adjunctive intervention of MCAP (plasma group). Sulcus bleeding index (SBI), probing depth (PD) and bone height (BH) were examined before and after intervention using computed tomography and histological staining. Additionally, interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6 and IL-17 levels in peri-implant sulcular fluid (PISF) were measured by ELISA.

RESULTS

A significant improvement in SBI, PD and BH was found in the plasma group (p < .05) when compared with the control group after three months of intervention. In addition, IL-1β and IL-17, but not IL-6 levels decreased (p < .05) in the plasma group compared with the control group after intervention.

CONCLUSIONS

The adjunctive use of MCAP to MD for PI can enhance bone formation around the implant and inhibit the inflammatory response. The application of MCAP could be considered a favourable adjunct to MD for PI.

目的

评估辅助使用改良的冷大气压等离子体(MCAP)联合手术机械清创(MD)对实验性牙周炎(PI)的疗效。

材料与方法

采用钢圈缠绕丝线结扎于种植体周围黏膜下的方法建立双侧下颌骨 PI 模型,将实验用比格犬随机分为两组:MD 联合 2% CHX 冲洗(对照组)和 MD 联合 MCAP 辅助干预(等离子体组)。在干预前后使用计算机断层扫描和组织学染色检查龈沟出血指数(SBI)、探诊深度(PD)和骨高度(BH)。采用 ELISA 法检测龈沟液(PISF)中白细胞介素(IL)-1β、IL-6 和 IL-17 的水平。

结果

干预 3 个月后,与对照组相比,等离子体组的 SBI、PD 和 BH 显著改善(p <.05)。此外,与对照组相比,等离子体组干预后 IL-1β和 IL-17 水平降低(p <.05),而 IL-6 水平无明显变化。

结论

MCAP 辅助 MD 治疗 PI 可增强种植体周围骨形成并抑制炎症反应。MCAP 的应用可被认为是治疗 PI 的一种有前途的辅助方法。
