Abstract

COVID-19 pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has spread across the globe, posing an enormous threat to public health and safety. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), in combination with Western medicine (WM), has made important and lasting contributions in the battle against COVID-19. In this review, updated clinical effects and potential mechanisms of TCM, presented in newly recognized three distinct phases of the disease, are summarized and discussed. By integrating the available clinical and preclinical evidence, the efficacies and underlying mechanisms of TCM on COVID-19, including the highly recommended three Chinese patent medicines and three Chinese medicine formulas, are described in a panorama. We hope that this comprehensive review not only provides a reference for health care professionals and the public to recognize the significant contributions of TCM for COVID-19, but also serves as an evidence-based in-depth summary and analysis to facilitate understanding the true scientific value of TCM.

由严重急性呼吸综合征冠状病毒2(SARS-CoV-2)引起的新型冠状病毒肺炎疫情已在全球蔓延,对公众健康和安全构成巨大威胁。中西医结合在抗击新型冠状病毒肺炎的战斗中做出了重要且持久的贡献。在这篇综述中,总结并讨论了在新认识的疾病三个不同阶段呈现的中医药的最新临床疗效和潜在机制。通过整合现有的临床和临床前证据,全面描述了中医药对新型冠状病毒肺炎的疗效及潜在机制,包括三种备受推荐的中成药和三个中药方剂。我们希望这篇全面的综述不仅为医护人员和公众认识中医药对新型冠状病毒肺炎的重大贡献提供参考,也作为基于证据的深入总结和分析,以促进理解中医药的真正科学价值。
