A retrospective review of 305 accidents in a period of one scholastic year in the schools of Bergamo was performed. Two percent of 15260 students, particularly boys (61.3%), were involved in injuries. 68.5% of all injuries were unintentional, 31.5% were caused by other pupils. 84.9% of accidents occurred during school time. Most injuries (83.6%) were of traumatologic interest, particularly involving arms and legs. 75.1% of accidents were admitted to the Emergency Department; the hospitalisation rate was 7.9%. About insurance aspects, only 19% of the accidents kept to right matter, coming to pertinent liquidation. The aim of this one-year investigation of school accidents is to obtain more knowledge for preventive and educational work.
