BACKGROUND/AIMS: Leadership plays a crucial role in many professions, especially in challenging positions such as emergency medical service jobs. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between managers' leadership styles and emergency medical technicians' job satisfaction.
This is a descriptive and cross-sectional study that was carried out in 2010. The research population included 21 managers and 87 emergency medical technicians working in 23 stations in Isfahan city, Iran. The main tools used for data accumulation were the Multiple Leadership Questionnaire for evaluating leadership styles and the Job Descriptive Index for measuring job satisfaction levels. Also, the Pearson correlation analysis test was used to evaluate the relationship between leadership style and job satisfaction.
Among both managers and technicians, the highest mean score related to the transformational management style, whereas the lowest mean score related to the laissez-faire management style. Moreover, a significant relationship (P<0.01) was found between the transformational and transactional leadership styles and job satisfaction. However, no significant relationship was observed between the laissez-faire management style and job satisfaction.
Considering the importance of job satisfaction in medical emergencies, it is recommended that health sector policy makers should provide the groundwork for implementing the transformational leadership style to enhance job satisfaction of the medical emergency staff.
背景/目的:领导力在许多职业中都起着至关重要的作用,尤其是在诸如紧急医疗服务工作等具有挑战性的岗位上。本研究的目的是探讨管理者的领导风格与急救医疗技术人员工作满意度之间的关系。
这是一项于2010年开展的描述性横断面研究。研究人群包括伊朗伊斯法罕市23个站点的21名管理者和87名急救医疗技术人员。用于数据收集的主要工具是评估领导风格的多重领导问卷和测量工作满意度水平的工作描述指数。此外,采用皮尔逊相关分析测试来评估领导风格与工作满意度之间的关系。
在管理者和技术人员中,与变革型管理风格相关的平均得分最高,而与自由放任型管理风格相关的平均得分最低。此外,变革型和交易型领导风格与工作满意度之间存在显著关系(P<0.01)。然而,自由放任型管理风格与工作满意度之间未观察到显著关系。
考虑到工作满意度在医疗紧急情况中的重要性,建议卫生部门政策制定者应为实施变革型领导风格奠定基础,以提高医疗急救人员的工作满意度。
